Brent Beckham: Online Running Coach
I specialize as a Beginner’s Ultrarunning Coach. I help you cross the finish line of your first ultramarathon!
First of all, I get you…
I see runners struggling with the overwhelm that comes with even thinking about training for an ultra. I’m here to tell you that you can do this!
How do I know? Because I’ve been through it all…
-
I’ve trained as a father.
-
I’ve trained with a fulltime job.
-
I’ve trained in the flat suburbs of Ohio.
-
I’ve trained in the mountains of the Dandenong Ranges.
I’m not the fastest and I’m not the slowest. I’ve trained as a vegan. I’ve DNF-ed. I’ve been a successful finisher. I’ve overtrained and developed injuries. I’ve trained smart and injury-free.
I’ve learned a lot of lessons along the way and I love sharing them with anyone that’s willing to listen!
Why I became an ultrarunning coach:
It’s simple really. No matter what I’m doing in life, I love helping people. Whether that’s being the one to empty the dishwasher when we visit my in-laws, being the team leader at my previous job, or helping people to achieve their ultramarathon goals.
I also love running. And I love talking about running. A lot. I’ve found, though, that not everyone in the world wants to hear about running all the time!
Being a coach allows me to blend my passions of running and helping people… and I love it.
As on Online Running Coach, here’s what you can expect when working with me:
-
Energy. I have a lot of it, and I’m excited to share it with you!
-
Nerd alert! I love to get to the “Why’s” behind your training, not just the “What”.
-
Excitement. I may be more excited about your race than you are!
-
Individualized. Training is not the same for everyone. Training plans and coaching are not one-size-fits-all. I work with your goals, your history, and your lifestyle!
-
Flexibility. Sometimes, life happens. Training plans need to change. I help you do that so you can still achieve your goals.
-
Comprehensive. I understand the importance of being both mentally and physically strong. I teach you how to work through your mental weaknesses in addition to your physical training.
A Few Fun Facts:
-
I can quote most of Monty Python and the Holy Grail… and a lot of other random movies and shows.
-
I always have a song in my head... and it doesn’t always stay there. It may escape through singing, humming, or even finger drumming.
-
Every year that I’m able, I complete a Birthday Run… One mile for every year!
-
I’ve been vegan since 2013… and haven’t looked back since.
-
I’ve been married since 2014.
-
I’ve been a father since 2017.
-
I quit drinking in 2018.
Want to know even more about me? Video coming soon ;)
Running History:
-
My running career began in 2011 with my first half (yes, I jumped right in, and haven’t looked back, ha!).
-
Since then I have covered the gamut of road race distances: 5k and 10k's, a 10 miler, half marathons, and marathons.
-
In 2015 I completed my first ultramarathon, the Post Canyon 50k in Oregon, on my 30th birthday. This is also when I got into trail running.
-
While in Australia, I completed the Buffalo Stampede 75k, with 5,000 meters (over 16,000 ft) of elevation change.
-
Most recently, I attempted a 100k race in Vietnam in September 2019. I made it 80k before calling it quits due to severe pain in both feet. However, I went back a week later to finish the rest of the course solo.
